The Irish Animal Welfare Association came to fruition in late October 2007
as a neutral ground unaffiliated to any existing groups or individuals in the
hope that it could become a support base for people who are interested in
the welfare of animals in Ireland, a website to upload useful information,
educational material, a forum which would provide a ‘safe harbour’ in a storm,
somewhere to voice opinions, a starting point from which we can all move
forward together in unity under the name of Ireland’s Forgotten Animals.
As with all thing’s new, the starting off is always slow but it is hoped that in time
people will see that this is a positive step in the right direction and they will
feel comfortable getting involved in whatever they see as suitable.
Anyone involved in rescue and rehoming will know that there is no financial
gain for the work we each do, what there is is the great feeling of
self-satisfaction and pride we feel as an animal walks out the gate wagging their
tail on route to their new homes in a way which possibly seemed unlikely just
a few weeks earlier. The goals and achievements we each reach of our own accord
are making a difference to the individuals concerned, now imagine the difference
we could make if we all pooled together in an effort to achieve a brighter future for
greater numbers, for the forgotten pockets of animals all around this country.
“Let the souls of those who have passed lead us along the right path
may they guide us towards the light at the end of the dark tunnel
so that we may all see the day where all life is respected
regardless of what species, religion, colour or creed it is”
